Potlight – Oregon Grown Cannabis

Weed Aficionado asked James Scott of Medford’s Oregon Grown Cannabis to give us the low-down on his business and what’s in store for the cannabis industry. OGC is at 1201 W. Stewart Ave., Medford. Store hours are 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday and from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.

WAM: When did your doors open for business?

OGC: April 5, 2017.

WAM: Do you service both recreational and medical users?

OGC: Yes, we are a recreational store with a medical sales endorsement.

WAM: What is the biggest draw at your location?

OGC: Location and cheap prices … good employees. We can’t name just one.

WAM: What is the reason behind your business’ success?

OGC: Well, it’s not who you know; it’s how you treat who you know … It’s all about networking in this business.

WAM: What inspired your passion for this industry?

OGC: Well, my passion comes from 10 years ago. I was in a wheelchair with parallelizing nerve damage, and I have used cannabis rubs and CBD oils to kick all prescription painkillers and learn to manage my disease better. And I thought to myself, ‘What can I do to help get this to people in need of this?’ So I prayed about it, and this is where is has lead me …

WAM: What is your favorite part of the job?

OGC: Just being able to be on the dispensary floor with the customer and pinching myself that we are really doing this! … We have been wanting to do this since we were 14. Hahaha … We just get to be legal now. Seriously, we are all here trying to UN-tarnish this industry’s stigma it has had for the past 80 years.

WAM: What’s new for your business this year?

OGC: Well, it’s hard to say where we are heading next. We have a few irons in the fire … but we are definitely expanding — that’s for sure.

WAM: What do think customers will demand more of in the future?

OGC: A good variety of cheap grams … and an even better variety of cheap pre-rolls.

WAM: What are the biggest challenges that cannabis business owners face in the industry?

OGC: This entire industry is an uphill battle from regulations and compliance to just running a business.

WAM: As the cannabis industry grows and improves, what developments are you most looking forward to in the future?

OGC: The continuous look into CBD and what it can do — both mixed with THC, or just on its own — truly amazing and getting better every day.
